The Power of the Story Opening
You can start with a fact. You can start with a question. But nothing grabs attention like a story.
Robert Collier opened with: “I was sitting at home reading when my wife was busy with her sewing.”
Neil French began: “Last night on television there were a hundred or so commercials.”
Joe Karbo started: “I used to work hard. Eighteen-hour days. Seven-day weeks.”
A story puts readers inside a moment. It doesn’t demand anything from them yet. It just creates a scene they can inhabit. By the time you make your point, they’re already invested.
Caples understood this. His piano posts didn’t start with features. They started with the moment someone sat down at a piano and surprised everyone. That narrative arc is what made the offer feel possible.
Your audience scrolls past hundreds of claims daily. Stories are what make them stop.
