Questions Are More Powerful Than Statements
A statement tells people what to think. A question makes them think for themselves. That’s why the best ads don’t lecture. They ask.
“Are you making these three life-threatening mistakes in fighting?”
“Can you really learn music without a teacher?”
“Do you know why you should never eat a spinach salad at a job interview?”
These aren’t rhetorical flourishes. They’re invitations. They pull readers into active participation instead of passive observation. A question creates a little loop in someone’s mind that demands to be closed. You’ve asked it. Now they need the answer.
The difference in response rates is measurable. Direct questions outperform statements almost every time. People don’t want to be lectured. They want to solve problems. Questions frame your message as the solution to a problem they already know they have.
